Google+ Honest Reviews and Lifestyle Tips: Contact/ PR

Contact/ PR

Hi, I am Gaganpreet. I have a professional experience of 14+ years behind me. I have worked into various fields spanning from lecturership, to trainings to operations, to online advertising etc. Google India was the last organization I worked for.

I started this blog in May 2012 purely out of my thirst to share the knowledge I have gained over years through my own mistakes, my life experiences, my experiments and research, and the things I have mostly learnt the hard way.

My mission is to add value to as many lives as possible, so not everybody has to go through the suffering I have gone through in my transformation to what I am today.

I have tattoos on my body which hold a very special meaning in my life. I am modern and open in my outlook, yet there are certain principles I follow very religiously and hold almost sacred, honesty and integrity being two of them. I believe in nature and natural products. I do not buy or use makeup except for some occasion once in a couple years. I prefer to spend that money on personal care products and other natural products for a rich healthy lifestyle. I also write a kids blog, which you can see HERE.

Here are a few basic pieces of information about me:
Birthday: 15 February
Sun Sign: Aquarius
Skin type: Combination. Normal to oily in Summers (oily T-zone). Very dry to normal in Winters.
Hair Color: Natural Black
Hair length: Thigh length more towards the knees
Eye Color: Black
I prefer personal care to makeup.
I don't believe in skin color. Healthy skin is beautiful to me. Hygiene, a good heart and some gray cells in your head matter more to me than the color of your skin. That's why I had initially named this blog as: Only gray matter matters.

  1. Hey Miss Gaganpreet,

I read your reviews on hair retarder cream. I am interested in buying it. Can you lead me to any sites that can ship it to U.S?

    Thank you,
    Diya

    1. Dear Diya, you can buy from Jabong.com. They ship internationally. Check the shipping policy at the bottom of their home page to know how to proceed. If used religiously, the effects last 6-7 months but are not permanent. Hair do 'sprout' back fast but then the growth further from there is slowed down.

    1. Dear Sunny, thanks for becoming a member. Have you been using Casting Creme or Excellence Creme? L'Oreal is the best hair color available in the market as all other brands either degrade hair quality or cause bad hair fall. If used properly, meaning with the least chemical exposure, and along with a mild sulphates free shampoo, you can go with chemical hair colors with a long period with minimal damage. Please email me as I need to get some details with you about your coloring and hair care routine and the ratio of creme colorant and developer you are using etc. Once you email, I will send you a list of questions and based on your ans, I will be able to guide what needs to be changed and what care can be taken.

  3. Dear Gagan
Today I started researching hair color side effects and came across your blog. My husband has been using Loreal hair color since quite a few years. Today when he applied it to his hair he was ok, but when he applied it to his moustache, he simply started to sink. His blood pressure had become quite low(he suffers from hypertension)

    ReplyDelete
  4. Dear Ranjana, hope your husband is feeling better now. Actually ammonia fumes are quite strong and even a small sniff shoots right into the brain, QUITE strong. So I can imagine how strong it may have felt when he applied the color to his moustache, which is right under the nose. It is dangerous to inhale the fumes continuously.

That is why it is written on each pack's instructions that the hair color is not supposed to be used elsewhere on the face like lashes or brows and I think they should clearly mention even moustaches. I am not sure how feasible it is for him, but I feel it is better not to keep a moustache at all rather than be worried about covering the gray in them.

  5. Dear Gagan ji,

I too started researching best hair colors and their side effects today and came across your blog. Its really really wonderful and v v informative. I appreciate the same. Very recently around 2 weeks back only, after hair cut, I got my side burns hair colored (black) by the hair dresser with I think Garnier. Lets see how long does it last and I dunno which color to buy in future for coloring my long side burns mainly as otherwise my hair are still black. As per u, it should be Loreal as its the best, pls confirm. No one else colors the hair in my home and my mother who is more than 70 still has natural black hair largely.

  7. I have used permanent hair colours for the past 15 yrs now i want to switch to henna i found this product Herbal hair dye by vcare can u please let me know how safe is that?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. VCare is safe but the instructions that come along with it are not accurate. Do NOT use an iron vessel to make any of the pastes and you can skip oiling the skin around as that will prevent color absorption on the temples or hair borders where you may actually require coverage.

  8. Hi Gagan,
Gone through your blog recently and indeed good tips.
I wanted to know the proportion of Henna to be used instead of hair colour which will effectively cover the greys. i havent coloured my hair ever til now and I haev started greying in the centre when i part my hair. Also the proprtion of indigo to be used, or henna alone enough?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Dear Munira, there is no fixed proportion of Henna to be used. You make a paste by approximation, enough to cover your full head or including your entire hair length too, if you prefer a full coverage. Henna will cover grays but in Orange color. No matter what additives you put, the color alters to a slightly light or dark, but on Indian Hair, Henna's color always stands out in stark contrast with the remaining black hair.

Indigo when used added in the henna paste gives different shades of brown depending on your present hair color, hair porosity and other factors, but it is not just soaked along with Henna. Henna and Indigo work on totally different conditions and timings for dye release and there is a proper way to make the pastes and get the optimum results. When not used properly, Indigo is just a waste of time because it won't stay until you know the correct method.

Mostly Henna comes in a 100 gms pack. If you have shoulder length hair, you can use a 100 gms packet 3-4 times. For longer hair 2-3 times and for very long hair reaching below waist, a full 100 gms pack with give you lavish coverage on the scalp as well as the hair length. It takes 1-2 attempts to figure out how much Henna powder is sufficient for you to make a paste. Keep the paste very thick, like toothpaste.

    1. Hi, I would appreciate if you please use your name to comment and refrain from commenting anonymously.

Shannaz Hussain's Colorveda uses the same ingredients as most costlier natural hair colors out there in the market. I have only one reported case of allergy with Colorveda so far. I have heard it gives good results but color doesn't stay long. You can try it and it would be great if you can come back and share the feedback here. I am going to create articles for feedback on various hair colors in the market, which will help people to make an informed choice when choosing hair colors.

      Hope this helps!

  11. Hi,
Any recommendations on henna-indigo mixes for grey hair? I've tried TVAM (not very good uptake of colour) and Vegetal (slightly better). Trying Colourveda this week. I don't mind paying a little more if the colour is of good quality and works well - I have 35-40% greys. Though from what you have written it sounds like two step henna and indigo process is the best bet for covering grey, I am hoping to achieve decent results with one of the mixes - at least for now.

    ReplyDelete
  12. The mixes will never work for a perfect color Vaishnavi because Henna and Indigo need totally different environments for dye release and for working on your hair. And the color you will get from these mixes will also wean off faster. This is why I have personally not tried any of these. There is a one step process too which works for some people but is different from the readymade mixes. No gain without some pain :)

  13. Hi Gagan,

Pls tell me how to become blog member?Since I am using my mobile, it is hard to locate this link.

I too did research on this ppd, ammonia, resorcinal etc a couple of years ago.
It is a pretty scary read indeed!. Since then I avoided dyes having ppd ammonia - I tried one French and one uk brand with no ammonia and ppd. But still there are side effects. So I tried vcare shampoo dye. It looks ok but.... I am about to try vcare 0% herbal dye. Surprisingly not much info available on the net and from vcare itself. Pls post sny info on side effects on these 2 vcare products if you have.
Your blog is very is very candid!

    1. Dear Ammayappa, sorry or the late reply. I did not have internet access for a very long time in between. VCare Shampoo dye is jst like any other chemical hair color, more so like the 10 min speed hair colors from Revlon or Bigen and may have serious side effects. VCare herbal hair dye has many cases of severe itching and scalp burns reported to me, plus it makes hair purple for some reason. Further the instructions given on the pack are incorrect. I can share extensive details on these 2 VCare products over email.

I have activated the web version of this site for mobiles too, so you should see the same kind of page as is visible on the mobile. Else just email me at onlygraymattermatters@gmail.com and I will share the direct subscription links to become a member.

  19. Hello there,
i find Godrej hair color very helpful
    my Question would be
are you gping to introduce blonde?

    my suggestion is that, :
pl. reduce pack size and sachet size, or you can change into Tubes, so its easier to squeeze and it wont spread all across , there by going wasted and its not to user friendly
but your product is great and highly economical , thank you for that
    great day,
    thanks, regards

    1. Thanks for your comment Sheera Betnag but I am amused how you ended up writing this comment on my site. We have no affiliation with Godrej or any other hair coloring brand. We are a brand ourselves. We do have a review of Godrej Expert Rich Creme hair color on this site, but that is something that caused a reaction in my body.

Good that it is working for you. There is one idiot who has been threatening us in the name of Godrej, I am sure your comment is going to make him very happy :D

On a serious note, please be sensible and read properly before leaving such irrelevant comments. You should find the contact details for Godrej on their hair color pack and share your ideas and feedback with them directly.

    Replies
    1. Hi Ruchi, I haven't personally used it but my cousin was using it for his beard for a very long time. When I saw him this May, his beard had gray, black, brown, orange and purple shades which was an absolute mess. I have also gathered feedback from a few clients and the color stay is 1 week. The reason is that henna and indigo when mixed in a single powder can never give good coverage. They have their own different dye release timings and need very different environments to color your hair properly. When you mix them together as a powder, there is some dye release but the color does not bind to the hair. Indigo as such cannot stick directly to your hair. Plus the other herbs being used in colorveda have a cooling effect on the scalp so some people complained of headache. Those who are used to and have a strong scalp to bear the cold feeling can use without issues. If it has only herbs, then it should not displace your melanin.

  28. Hi Gagan,

I am 37 years old and have had premature greying of hair since the past 17 years. Initially there were a few grey strands only so I used henna for around 10 years and my hair looked healthy and great. For the past 5 years I have been using Majirel hair colour and now my once straight hair looks damaged, frizzy, wavy and completely lack lustre. I want to switch back to henna but almost all my hair are white now so the bright red colour will look bad. Thought of using Colorveda but not so sure after reading your review.
Please suggest a natural way to colour my hair dark brown or brownish black. I want my healthy hair back!
