Other than this one, Soulflower offers 2 more shampoo bars ('Sandalwood Geranium Shampoo Bar' and 'Let Your Hair Down Shampoo bar') and one hair conditioner bar.
As suggested on the wrapper, I cut this shampoo bar into two pieces. For facial use of Soulflower soaps, 4 pieces are good. But for bathing purpose, that becomes too small, so 2 pieces are fine.
MY EXPERIENCE WITH SOULFLOWER ROSEMARY LAVENDER SHAMPOO BAR:
I was happy with my Organic Surge Color Protect Shampoo which I was using and repurchasing for more than a year. But during my search for a less pricey sulphates free shampoo, I ended up on this Soulflower shampoo bar. UPDATE Sept 11, 2013: Unfortunately, Organic Surge has recently reformulated all its products and their shampoos are no longer sulphates-free.
Soulflower Rosemary Lavender bar can be used as a shampoo as well as bathing bar and is ideal for travelling purpose, so you don't have to carry a soap and shampoo separately. It does not melt like crazy and also does not run down to eyes like other shampoos, so very convenient to use.
But it feels very strong on the skin and not ideal for use on the face. It stings and the essential oils fumes burn into the eyes and nostrils. On rinsing out, it leaves a very cool and refreshing sensation on the scalp.
I would rub a very small amount of this soap into the scalp and then lather up with wet hands. It washed out easily with a few mugs of water. Unfortunately, it didn't work out on my colored hair. It washes out Henna as well as chemical hair colors because it is a strong cleanser.
I used it exactly as per the description on the soulflower website. I did not have apple cider vinegar, so I used diluted lemon juice as an acidic rinse and that was the worst hair day of my life. My hair tangled like hell and I had to spend some 4 hours to detangle them, while I lost more than 50% of my hair volume.
I still didn't give up and kept using without the acidic rinse and it worked just fine without tangling my hair. But if you actually need an apple cider vinegar rinse after using this shampoo bar, in order to get optimum results, then it is a very costly affair.
This shampoo bar may be helpful to people with scalp infections. I chose the worst time to start using this. I started using it in the hot and humid month of June, when hair fall is naturally high for everyone. It turned my hair super soft but my hair remained super-frizzy and shed like crazy. When the weather turned a little cooler, the hair fall came down but I could see soapy white residue still coming out in my comb. Also, below the shoulder length, my hair looked like a doll's nylon hair. I have seen the same effect in people who use Pears soap to wash their hair.
Finally I gave up and shifted back to my usual shampoo and used the remaining bar for bathing.
It is recommended that after using this shampoo, you apply a few drops of Jojoba carrier oil to your damp/towel-dried hair, which will condition as well as keep your hair naturally healthy. Jojoba oil seals the cuticles left open by the shampoo. I sometimes used Jojoba and sometimes used Argan oil. But of course, you cannot expect the same false conditioning effect that you get with your chemical based conditioners with silicones.
Even though I don't use this shampoo bar any longer, I still use Jojoba or Argan oil or both on my damp hair for conditioning effect.
WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN USING THIS SHAMPOO BAR?
When you shift to a sulphates free shampoo, it takes at least a month for your hair and scalp to adjust to it. During this adjustment/adaptation period, your hair do not feel very clean or shiny and you doubt that the shampoo is bad. You may even see some white soapy residue in your comb. But once your hair adjust to it, you will suddenly notice a positive difference in your hair. Hair become soft, shiny and healthy.
There are mixed reviews for these shampoo bars. It does suit some people but it didn't work for me.
