Soulflower Rosemary Lavender Sulphates free Shampoo Bar Ingredients

You can read the benefits of each ingredient here.

Other than this one, Soulflower offers 2 more shampoo bars ('Sandalwood Geranium Shampoo Bar' and 'Let Your Hair Down Shampoo bar') and one hair conditioner bar.

As suggested on the wrapper, I cut this shampoo bar into two pieces. For facial use of Soulflower soaps, 4 pieces are good. But for bathing purpose, that becomes too small, so 2 pieces are fine.

MY EXPERIENCE WITH SOULFLOWER ROSEMARY LAVENDER SHAMPOO BAR:

I was happy with my Organic Surge Color Protect Shampoo which I was using and repurchasing for more than a year. But during my search for a less pricey sulphates free shampoo, I ended up on this Soulflower shampoo bar. UPDATE Sept 11, 2013: Unfortunately, Organic Surge has recently reformulated all its products and their shampoos are no longer sulphates-free.

Soulflower Rosemary Lavender bar can be used as a shampoo as well as bathing bar and is ideal for travelling purpose, so you don't have to carry a soap and shampoo separately. It does not melt like crazy and also does not run down to eyes like other shampoos, so very convenient to use.

But it feels very strong on the skin and not ideal for use on the face. It stings and the essential oils fumes burn into the eyes and nostrils. On rinsing out, it leaves a very cool and refreshing sensation on the scalp.

I would rub a very small amount of this soap into the scalp and then lather up with wet hands. It washed out easily with a few mugs of water. Unfortunately, it didn't work out on my colored hair. It washes out Henna as well as chemical hair colors because it is a strong cleanser.

I used it exactly as per the description on the soulflower website. I did not have apple cider vinegar, so I used diluted lemon juice as an acidic rinse and that was the worst hair day of my life. My hair tangled like hell and I had to spend some 4 hours to detangle them, while I lost more than 50% of my hair volume.

I still didn't give up and kept using without the acidic rinse and it worked just fine without tangling my hair. But if you actually need an apple cider vinegar rinse after using this shampoo bar, in order to get optimum results, then it is a very costly affair.

This shampoo bar may be helpful to people with scalp infections. I chose the worst time to start using this. I started using it in the hot and humid month of June, when hair fall is naturally high for everyone. It turned my hair super soft but my hair remained super-frizzy and shed like crazy. When the weather turned a little cooler, the hair fall came down but I could see soapy white residue still coming out in my comb. Also, below the shoulder length, my hair looked like a doll's nylon hair. I have seen the same effect in people who use Pears soap to wash their hair.

Finally I gave up and shifted back to my usual shampoo and used the remaining bar for bathing.

HOW TO CONDITION HAIR AFTER USING THIS SHAMPOO BAR?

It is recommended that after using this shampoo, you apply a few drops of Jojoba carrier oil to your damp/towel-dried hair, which will condition as well as keep your hair naturally healthy. Jojoba oil seals the cuticles left open by the shampoo. I sometimes used Jojoba and sometimes used Argan oil. But of course, you cannot expect the same false conditioning effect that you get with your chemical based conditioners with silicones.

Even though I don't use this shampoo bar any longer, I still use Jojoba or Argan oil or both on my damp hair for conditioning effect.

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN USING THIS SHAMPOO BAR?

Soulflower Rosemary Lavender Sulphates free Shampoo Bar India Review

When you shift to a sulphates free shampoo, it takes at least a month for your hair and scalp to adjust to it. During this adjustment/adaptation period, your hair do not feel very clean or shiny and you doubt that the shampoo is bad. You may even see some white soapy residue in your comb. But once your hair adjust to it, you will suddenly notice a positive difference in your hair. Hair become soft, shiny and healthy.

There are mixed reviews for these shampoo bars. It does suit some people but it didn't work for me.

    1. Thanks for reading Supriya :) No, I didn't try Apple Cider Vinegar though a lot of people who use sulphates free shampoos or a 'No poo' method for dry shampooing do recommend it.

      1. I thought I am already using sulphate free shampoo for 1+ year so my hair may not need much adjustment 2. It felt like too much effort to search where to buy it online.

If you have ever tried it, please let me know. It will be a very valuable piece of info in this context.

    2. Same is the case with me, as you know. I don't think we need ACV to wash off any chemical residues. But still for the sake of trying, I am thinking of ordering one but after monsoon gets over. I found it on healthkart, goodlife and daily deals in ebay.

    1. I know you had asked for a review on these products and so did many other people. I am using a lot of products from Soulflower but it's just people may be overwhelmed if I post only Soulflower reviews. The roll ons are great but I am afraid baby my skin may not work that good on oily skin even though it claims to be suitable to oily skin. It dries out my oily T-zone but works great on dry to normal skin.

    2. Me too have heard a lot abt ACV but Supriya mentioned in the above comment that she saw it online. I never made the effort to search for it as am doing good without it.

    1. Hey Tej, yes they have awesome products and I am using many of them. I checked and Soulflower currently ships only to India. may be when you visit here in near future, you can collect some stuff. It's total value for money and great results. Apple Cider Vinegar (Acidic) works great if you are using a low pH (Base) shampoo as acids and bases react with each other and break down to something very mild like salt and water. That ways you are able to clear any dirt or soapy buildup from your hair revealing shiny hair. With normal shampoos, you may not require it.

    1. Oh that's a great haul Neelima and I am glad you liked the the products and the reviews too :) I am also using the Jojoba oil and have shopped a few more times with them by now. I am yet to review certain products people asked me to review, but a female wrote a very discouraging email to me saying I write only about Soulflower products :) So your comment is so welcome in that light. I am a user just like other people and I find Soulflower products just amazing.

  6. Don't they have anything for coloured hair? I am desperately looking for sls free shampoo. Organic surge colour protect shampoo is out of stock in most of the online shopping sites. please can anyone help?

    1. Hi Yavika. Soulflower does not have any color-protect range as they are more into soaps and aromatherapy. The Organic Surge Color Protect Shampoo is not being restocked in India for the time being as the company is making some changes to the formula. So it will be some time before it is available again.

The Color Protect Shampoo is available on Browsecart.com. You can buy from there. I saw that the color protect conditioner is available at 50% at koovs.com but please check their shipping policy before ordering.

    2. hey I have seen on jobong, organic surge shampoo is available

    3. Yes Sharvini, but mostly Organic Surge shine or volume boost is left on some sites. If you see Moisture boost on any site, that is the new stock. Even for Shine or Volume boost, I suggest you first check with them if it is the old or the new stock. Shine boost is for normal scalp, volume boost for oily scalp and moisture boost is now a color protect shampoo after the change in the formula.

I had written to Organic Surge and they are again reformulating a second time, which will be available around Oct end. But the new stock you see now is with chemicals and sulphates.

    1. A soap is basically alkaline but the use of fruit extracts and essential oils makes these soaps milder and pampering. It is a great brand, worth trying!

    1. Sharvini the new color protect shampoo is the reformulated moisture boost shampoo/ The bottle is purplish pink in color. You may see the old red bottles on a very few sites. It was available on healthkart till a few days ago. You can check there. Everywhere else it is sold out. If you want to try the new color protect shampoo, buy it after October when there may be newer stock. Please read my reply to your previous comment above for details.

  9. I used the sandalwood and geranium shampoo bar from Soulflower and i had a horrible experience. Waxy, tangled hair. Somewhat dandruff-y even and I don't get dandruff ever! You're so right about the tip of the hair. Ditto. The tips look like I've got a bad case of split ends. And the hair fall! The soap deserves to be in the dustbin instead of my hair!

  10. Dear Aayushi, thanks for sharing your feedback on Soulflower Shampoo bars. It is truly one of the worst products for hair. I can so relate to the waxy feeling. Soulflower claims that this shampoo bar is loved by many and I had even read some rave reviews before purchasing. But it was the worst decision as it made me lose a LOT of hair. It works great as a bathing bar though.
